An architecton is a style, shape,
and archetype that is a part of “Hardcore” architecture. Architectons originate
from the artist Kasimir Malevich’s attempts at implementing suprematism within
architecture in a series of models. His architectons focused on the asymmetric
organization of basic geometric forms, like those derived from abstract art.
Their unique designs commonly consisted of towering straight edged shapes
leveled onto one another in a particular way. The architectons can be laid
vertically or horizontally as they showcase a different perspective on each of
their sides, while building upon a bigger shape in the center.
Although, the
architectons can have a disordered look, there’s a meaning behind it, and with
more attention, a sense of understanding about Malevich’s idea towards a new pure
non-objective form in architecture can be recognized due to the artistic
combination of sleek/simple geometric shapes/patterns in an attempt to merge
suprematism into a three dimensional space. Architectons have the potential to
expand from being abstract art into achieving its purpose of becoming beautiful
architecture. Translating function into this form could revolutionize areas in
architecture that praise modern, abstract, and towering composite designs.
